“My guardian angel is a drunk.”
Evelyn Casey’s life is at a standstill. She’s in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It’s absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.
And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he’s a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he’s brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he’s brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as —-. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.
For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.
Yes, God as in God.

Title: Lucian Divine
Author: Renee Carlino
Category: Romance, Paranormal
Series or Standalone: Standalone
POV: Dual, First person
HEA: Not telling
What an amazingly refreshing paranormal book. I am quite picky when it comes to the genre but this book had it all! Romance, humor and angels. Angels have to be my favorite subgenre in paranormal and this book drew me in from page one.
What can you do when you discover that guardian angels exist and yours is a drunk? Well, in Evey’s case you fall in love with them. Lucian is not your usual angel; a handsome drunkard that has lived for several millennia but is also hopelessly in love with the soul he is bound to protect. He has watched over Evelyn since she were a baby and now he failed to do the one thing he must do; protect her from himself.
Thrust in uncharted waters, our unlikely couple will face heaven and angels to survive… But will they?
Excellently written by Renee Carlino, Lucian Divine, is one of my favorite books ever. Skillfully emotional, without being over-dramatic, and romantic, the book does not conform to the norm and I personally loved how the story was woven. The book is easy to follow and the theme is so refreshingly handled that the book reads like a fairytale while being realistic at the same time.
It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a paranormal book so thoroughly. I cannot recommend it enough.
Read it and wish for your own Lucian! I know I do.
